A poll! How fun!

At church they have recently finished renovating the small-group room. This is where our small-group (among others) meets. Obviously. A couple weeks ago they were trying to decide what curtains to use. I still don’t know which they picked, because their aren’t any up right now, but I do know that I liked one of the options so much I went out and bought them for myself. I hung them in our bedroom and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to convince myself they matched. They did not. They had too much green in them to look good with our dusky blue accent wall behind the bed, a fact I admitted when S got home, saw them, and said, “Ehhhh….”  I didn’t want to return them, so I tried to figure out where else I could put them. Solution: the dining room.

The walls are not that neon yellow looking in real life. It is so hard to get a good picture of the wall with the windows, because the light coming through them messes it up. BUT the yellow/gold of the walls does perfectly match the yellow/gold of the embroidered peacock feathers on the curtains. Obviously the diplomas will need to find a new home, as they are now too cramped in their present place.

Here is a picture with the curtains closed. We will probably never close them, since there is no need to with the blinds there.

This leads me to my poll. I love the curtains and think they look great there. S still needs some convincing and wants the opinion of at least one other person. (cough, Tess, cough) So it is time to vote!

  1. My philosophy is always solids (or gradients of one color) for window treatments, that way they are always in style and are easier to match things with. I’m loving the color of them though and I’m sure in person it all looks way more cohesive.

  2. OoooOoOOoo!

I have to say, I read the post on my phone first and hadn’t loaded the pictures. Yellow walls+peacock curtains+I rarely like curtains= I didn’t expect to like them.

That said- I DO! (Keep in mind blues&yellows are my fav combination). The curtains are quite rich looking and have enough character to make me like them- they’re definitely a focal point though. Keep in mind you’re more likely to tire of them since they’re not super simple (although, I prefer bold pieces you love- even if you eventually tire of them). I think more white furniture/accessories/decor in the room would help them pop a lot too…

I think they look great with the walls- so bold and fun- my kinda room! 🙂

What I’m not crazy about though is the curtain rod- the dark color stands out too much imho (especially that center support bracket). I feel like a white rod (and thicker maybe?) would blend in more with the wainscoting & molding. Curtain rods are often a pet peeve of mine though…

    • Thanks for the input! That center support on the curtain rod has been driving me nuts. I think a larger white rod might do the trick. We just happened to have the dark rod and it matches the finish of the chandelier, but I think you are right about a white one blending in more.

  3. i LOVE the curtains. i agree with tess- they look so rich! i was looking at the picture and was like “whoa! droppin the big bucks on curtains!” haha and since i have seen the “texas gold” walls in person, i can see how they would match the peacock feathers perfectly. and how stephen might not like them. 🙂
